Understanding and Implementing the ITES
Overview

Table of Contents

In this session you will learn about the Information and Technology Essential Standards (ITES) for media and technology. These standards were collaboratively developed in 2009 between LEA representatives and other DPI staff using Bloom's Revised Taxonomy. They replace the Computer Skills and Information Literacy Standard Course of Study and were implemented in the 2011-2012 school year. We will discuss how ITES can be used in support of teachers' planning, implementing, and assessing of technology embedded instructional activities. We will use digital tools to support your use of ITES when working with teachers in your school or district.

Goals

We will review the new North Carolina Information and Technology Essential Standards (ITES) and demonstrate the integration of 21st Century information and technology tools and content. More importantly, we will model how ITES can be used when conducting PD/capacity building with teachers, schools and districts.

Learning Outcomes

After this session participants will:
  • understand the 5 strands of the ITES
  • understand that the ITES are to be implemented by all classroom teachers in collaboration with Media Coordinators and Technology Facilitators
  • apply their learning by identifying key components of the 5 strands of the ITES
  • anticipate roadblocks and possible solutions in supporting ITES when working with teachers, schools, and districts
  • reflect on how ITES can be supported when conducting PD/capacity building with teachers, schools, and districts
